Josephine County: Open Letter to Stephen D. Campbell New District Attorney
John Taft Investigative Reporter
Grants Pass, OREGON (11-11-04) -- Arrogant, disdainful, and disrespectful (ADD) is a malady that inflicts many public officials. Stephen D. Campbell, who will assume the office of Josephine County District Attorney in January, 05, or sooner, also has been diagnosed with this affliction. An Observer staff reporter recently called Campbell and left a message on his voice mail. Campbell chose not to return the call. The issue of ADD goes beyond not returning a phone call. It goes to the very essence of being a good public servant. (See the article Levy Burns on Sheriff’s Lap in this issue of the Observer.) Campbell, seems to think he has been baptized in holy water and walks on hallowed ground rather than being a bought and paid for public servant. Campbell had no opposition for the position of district attorney and got a free ride to the second floor. The Observer editorial staff recently met to discuss the arrogance of Campbell. That light in the tunnel coming towards you, Mr. Campbell, isn’t the Chattanooga Choo Choo; it’s the US Observer. An induction into the Observer Hall of Shame may be in order. Josephine County doesn’t need another clone of the former DA in this office. When an Observer reporter calls you Mr. Campbell, we expect a return call. Public servants that fail to use common courtesy are viperous worms that gnaw the bowels of society.
Note: The US Observer will print this article in its next issue, in November 2004.
